Enclosed are the details of our
Spring/Summer term, which starts on
Monday 25 February 2008.
Our Absolute Beginners class is held on two evenings
a week, Tuesday and Thursday between 8.00-9.00 pm.
This class runs for 20 weeks and gives everyone a
good foundation in couple dancing, in both the
Ballroom and Latin disciplines. Salsa and Rock ‘n’
Roll classes are ten-week courses. These are styled
to get you started and give you the confidence to
get up and dance. Big social enhancers for all age
groups are Scottish Country and Irish classes.
Traditional set dances with a touch of technique.
Classes this term are taken by Claire Morgan,
Ballroom, Latin American, & Beginners Dance nights.
Tina Mangnall, Social Dance class. Gemma Day, Tap,
Fitness through Dance, Modern and Jazz. Rebecca
Petty-Fitzmaurice, Ballet. Irene Wilkie, Scottish
Country & Highland, Mike McInerney, Irish Dance and
Liz Loikkanen, Tribal Fusion.
The year is split into four teaching periods with at
least one week of pure practise at the end of the
teaching period. Only two dances will be taught in
our Ballroom & Latin beginners and improvers classes
over each period. This will make it easier to move
around and choose the dances you wish to learn, and
to join a class mid term, both for beginners and
existing pupils.
For all those people who wish to take medals, these
courses give a wider range of figures and the chance
for you to put together your own routine. Details
of medal test requirements are available on request.
Below is a short description of the different dance
classes to be held at

General Advice
For the absolute beginner, and indeed for those with
just a little experience, you will not be taught
anything that is too difficult. Two left feet or no!
You may come with or without a partner. Dress is
optional, (Please NO Jeans or Denim wear, as it
restricts movement) something that gives freedom of
movement and is comfortable.
Shoes
Light neat shoes with either
laces or strap fastener (to keep them on your feet)
are recommended. Dance shoes are on sale at the
school. Shoes not permitted are trainers, stiletto
heels and steel studded shoes/boots. Not
recommended are kickers, (those types of shoes with
thick rubber soles) because of the difficulty of
dancing in them. All shoes must be changed before
entering the studios. No outdoor shoes are to be
worn into the dance studios as they can damage the
floor surfaces. Tap, Ballet and Jazz shoes are
essential to participate correctly in these classes.
